Joelle has been in the business world since before she could walk. Her mother, Jill, was an entrepreneur who developed a business from a family barbeque sauce recipe. As a child, Joelle learned the key to great customer service, the best sales techniques, and saw how hard her mother worked to maintain a successful business. Joelle cannot remember a time that her mother was not cooking giant pots of delicious barbeque sauce – it was a right of passage to help stir, fill and carefully stick individual labels onto each warm jar. It was an art form. At the age of 9, Joelle was assisting in trade shows, on-site demos, and knew all of the vendors her mother worked with by name.
Throughout school, Joelle found herself with the same passion she saw in her mom. Not to run the family business, but to help businesses develop and reach their goals. As she attended university, she found herself extremely bored in business classes and enamored with the idea of telling stories to help small business owners succeed.
Soon she had the opportunity to work alongside a mentor and friend of hers, who walked her through the process of web development, and from then on she was hooked. She left school and began building websites for the small business owners in her network and built a business for herself.
Her favorite aspects of the job? Working with her clients and contractors. She feels fueled after strategy meetings and presenting on reports.
When she isn’t at her computer busting out beautiful websites, she is dreaming up content ideas and taking messy notes in one of her many journals. She processes internally – thinking over all of the details before she begins work. She loves to problem solve and to come up with the most efficient plan. She wants to get the job done right the first time and if something isn’t working she will come up with a better way to do it. She is not afraid of just trying something.
Joelle’s Philosophy: Just try it, you can probably do it. If you find out you can’t do it, ask for help.
Joelle loves art and tasks that take creativity and the use of her hands. If you called her right now and asked her about her current projects she has going on, she would tell you about a mosaic table she just finished, a fence she just built, a pair of slippers that are halfway knit, a quilt she is working on with her grandma, and a painting that is brewing in her mind.
She uses cookbooks as inspiration. She is not afraid to just try something if it feels right. She loves learning through other people and asking questions. She loves coffee and books and travel as much as the next millennial.
Joelle works because she loves to create and to interact with people. She loves seeing other people’s passions come alive. She lives for all forms of exploration, and the joy of experiencing alongside her husband, Chad, and her dog, Monroe.
Other fun facts? Joelle & Chad lived in Austria for a summer, and she knows basic German! She has worked in a bakery, a fish market, and on a farm. Her superpower is knowing the lyrics to every random song she has ever heard. 98% of her childhood birthday parties were held at the public swimming pool, and she almost always would rather be in the water.
